Stemming primarily from rare first editions, this Hebrew book opens a new window to Jewish Education from the sixteenth century to the beginning of the twentieth century in the eastern countries. Professor Shmuel Glick is the director of the Schocken Institute for Jewish Research in Jerusalem. He is teaching Rabbinic Literature and Jewish Education at the Schechter Institute for Jewish Studies, and heads The Center for Jewish Educational Thought at the Lifshitz Teacher`s College in Jerusalem. Among his recent publications are the books: Education in Light of Israeli Law and Halachic Literature (Jerusalem 1999-2000). He also edited and annotated the Simcha Assafs` Mekorot le-Toldot Hachinukh Be-Yisrael – A Source-Book for the History of Jewish Education from the beginning of the Middle Ages to the Period of the Haskalah.
