The book deals with the multifaceted challenges of educating Rabbis in the modern world. The first part of the book presents major Seminaries and personalities that were involved with modern rabbinical education in pre-Holocaust Germany, Poland and Hungary; the second part deals with the transfer of Rabbinical Seminaries to the United States and Israel; the third part includes more contemporary discussions about the topic as well as memoirs of alumni of the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary in Jerusalem.
The book is the result of a conference in 2004 that marked the 150th anniversary of the Breslau Rabbinical Seminary in Germany as well as the 20th anniversary of the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary in Jerusalem.
