Research into medieval and Renaissance Hebrew philology in our generation is quite limited, perhaps because of a lack of definition of goals and of mapping of materials. This catalogue is meant to fill in part that gap. The catalogue lists and describes 722 manuscripts and Genizah fragments in Hebrew philology – grammars, glossaries, dictionaries and encyclopedias – from the Library of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. These items have been collected from the precious collections in Judaica, which contain more than 10,000 manuscripts and 40,000 Genizah leaves purchased by the Library during the last hundred years from several collectors, e.g., the famous E.N. Adler collection, purchased in 1922.
